It was a perfect day for Damion Downs. On Sunday afternoon, he helped 1. FC Köln to a 3:1 win against FC Schalke 04, scoring his first goal of the season. In the 25th minute, he thrashed home from the edge of the box after good work from Dejan Ljubicic.
"I am very happy, I waited long enough. To score my first goal of the season against Schalke is great," said Downs after the game. For him, it was his first game in the VELTINS-Arena: "During the game, you try to blend out the atmosphere. But when there's a break in play, you look up and see how many people are there."
The youngster added: "We took our chances. Sometimes we could have maybe played things out a little better, but the result sums up the game well."
