1. FC Köln have added another member to their Goalkeeper Coaching team in Nils Segelken. The 33-year-old will work together with Peter Greiber to train the goalkeeping team. FC have also agreed a long-term extension with Greiber.
“We are very happy that Nils is joining our Coaching Staff. In the discussions we had, his expertise as well as his character quickly convinced us that he is the ideal addition to our Coaching Staff and to work together with Peter Greiber,” said Thomas Kessler, 1. FC Köln Managing Director.
“The move to 1. FC Köln means a lot to me. I have many special memories when it comes to the city and that’s why I am very excited to return to Köln and be part of such an historic club. The open and trustful discussions with Thomas and Peter showed me from the start that the sporting ideals, as well as on a personal level, would fit together well. My goal is to develop the goalkeepers as best I can and to do my bit for the club’s sporting success. I am looking forward to this role of responsibility and to working closely with Peter and the entire Coaching Staff,” said Nils Segelken.
In the coming year, Greiber will swap the pitch for the office at Geißbockheim, leading and building up the Goalkeeper Scouting and Recruiting Department.
“This decision is part of our strategic development. We want to make our Goalkeeper Scouting and Recruiting Department more professional in the future. Peter has worked at the highest level for many years and, along with his qualities as a goalkeeper coach, has a good eye for goalkeeper profiles and the potential to develop. Through Nils’ move, we will be able to share the tasks in the coming season within the Goalkeeper Department. We are making sure that we will be able to continue working at the highest level with our goalkeepers on the pitch and, at the same time, be able to build up our Goalkeeper Scouting and Recruiting Department long-term,” explained Thomas Kessler.
“I will take this step next summer with mixed feelings. The work as a Goalkeper Coach meant a lot to me, and I am thankful for the trust and our time together. At the same time, I am really looking forward to taking on the new challenge in Goalkeeper Scouting and to bring in my experience there. Up until my job switch, my full focus remains on my current task. Our goals in the Bundesliga have the utmost priority and I will give everything until my last day for that,” said Peter Greiber.
Nils Segelken was born on 30th August 1992 in Cuxhaven. The Goalkeeper Coach, with the relevant DFB licence, started his coaching career with Eimsbütteler TV, before moving on to Teutonia Ottensen and FC St. Pauli.
