FC sign Alessio Castro-Montes

1. FC Köln have signed Alessio Castro-Montes on Deadline Day. The 28-year-old winger arrives from Belgian Champions, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and signed a deal until 2028.

“In Alessio, we’ve strengthened once more out wide. He is able to play multiple positions, has international experience, footballing quality and plenty of footballing intelligence. In our discussions, he clearly stated that he wants to show what he can do with us and prove his worth in the Bundesliga. We’re very pleased with his decision and are convinced that he will help us, both as a player and as a person, to reach our goal of playing a consistent Bundesliga season,” said FC Sporting Director, Thomas Kessler.

“I decided to join FC because it is a really big, cool club with a huge fanbase. It was always my dream to play in the Bundesliga. Therefore, it’s a great move for me. I am looking forward to the challenge and, most of all, want to help make sure that we stay in the Bundesliga,” said Alessio Castro-Montes.

Alessio Castro-Montes was born on 17th May 1997 in Sint-Truiden, Belgium. He took his first footballing steps with VV Gelmen before going through the academies at Standard Liege and RSC Anderlecht, before the son of a Spaniard and Belgian returned to VV St. Truiden. He made his debut on the last matchday of the 2015-16 season against RSC Charleroi. After a spell at KAS Eupen (39 games, two goals), Castro-Montes moved to KAA Gent (182 games, 15 goals and 22 assists), where he also featured in the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Conference League. In the 2023-24 season, he moved to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. In the past campaign, he won the league title (23 games, two goals, five assists). He featured for Saint-Gilloise five times this season.
