Jakub Kamiński has left 1. FC Köln after spending last season on loan at the club. FC had exercised their option to buy that was agreed upon with VfL Wolfsburg, though the new deal contained a release clause. The 24-year-old Pole will now leave the club and join SL Benfica.
FC Managing Director, Thomas Kessler said: “Jakub impressed us across the board last season – both on and off the pitch. We are proud that we were able to offer him an environment that allowed him to continuously reach his potential. At the same time, such good performances obviously attract attention on the market and why we had to expect that Jakub might leave. We thank him for his tireless efforts last season and wish him all the best, both in a sporting and a private sense.”
The decision to leave 1. FC Köln is one that Jakub Kamiński hasn’t taken lightly: “From day one, I immediately felt at home at FC, in the team and in the city of Köln. In this environment, I was able to perform at my best last season and I will always be thankful to FC for that. The transfer is difficult for that reason but it offers me the chance to make the next sporting step at a big club that plays in Europe. I want to take that chance.”
After taking his first steps as a professional footballer with Lech Poznan, where he made his debut at just 17, the Polish international made the move to the Bundesliga in 2022. After three years in Wolfsburg, he joined 1. FC Köln in the summer past and started in all 36 competitive fixtures. He registered seven goals and five assists, making his fourth Bundesliga season his best.
