1. FC Köln have extended the contract with Timo Hübers until 2027. The defender suffered a serious knee injury at the end of October.
“I have a lot of respect for how Timo is getting on with the current situation. After the first shock, he showed incredible professionalism and strength very quickly. The fact he was in a similar situation before surely helped. At the same time, you can see what discipline and desire he is working towards his comeback with. He is at Geißbockheim every day, is keeping close contact with the team and is an important part of our group. That’s why it was clear for us to give him the maximum amount of trust and support on his journey. He will have the time he needs, without pressure. The contract extension is a clear sign of how we value him and of our trust,” said FC Managing Director, Thomas Kessler.
“The support and positivity I received following my injury was huge. Those responsible at 1. FC Köln were there for me from the start and signalled to me that I can fully concentrate on my rehab and don’t have to worry about my future. I am very thankful for that. I was in regular contact with Thomas Kessler the whole time. I am full of pride and it speaks for that because my contract has been extended. At the same time, I still feel very comfortable at Geißbockheim. This is a show of trust that I absolutely want to give back. Ideally, I want to pick up where I left off before my injury,” said Timo Hübers.
