After five years at 1. FC Köln, Florian Dietz has left the club. The striker has joined 3. Liga side, SSV Jahn Regensburg.
“We had very open discussions with Florian in the summer and made it clear that it would be difficult for him to get game time and have his place in the Matchday squad. During the talks it quickly became clear that a move would be the right step for his career. The way Florian has always bounced back after setbacks and put the team before himself has always impressed me. In SSV Jahn Regensburg, we found an ambitious club where he can use his strengths. We thank him for his efforts in FC kit and wish him only the very best for everything to come,” said FC Managing Director, Thomas Kessler.
Florian Dietz said: “The time at FC was very special for me. To play for Köln in the Bundesliga and in the Conference League was my career highlight. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to do so. Now it was clear that the journey at FC would come to an end. That’s why I decided to join Regensburg and I’m looking forward to my next challenge. I wish everyone at FC a successful season in the Bundesliga.”
The 27-year-old joined FC on loan in summer 2020, initially for the under-21s, from SpVgg Unterhaching. One year later, he joined on a permanent deal. After two years with the under-21s and scoring 17 goals in 30 games, he made his debut for the first-team on the opening day of the 2022-23 season against FC Schalke 04. In the next game, he scored against Leipzig for his first Bundesliga goal. After five Conference League games, one Cup tie and 19 Bundesliga games, Dietz was loaned out to SCR Altach for the second half of the season.
