Marleen Schimmer was born on 23rd October 2000 in Mainz and came through the ranks at TSV Schott Mainz. She made the step up to their first-team and scored 16 goals in 35 2. Bundesliga games, as well as three goals in four DFB-Pokal matches.
With the German youth teams, Schimmer helped the under-17s to be crowned European Champions in 2017. After the 2017-18 season, she moved to Arizona State University for two years before joining Grand Canyon University. She then entered the NWSL Draft and became the first German player to ever be drafted, joining Alex Morgen at San Diego Wave FC.
In January 2023, she returned to Germany and joined 1. FC Köln. After good performances in the 2. Bundesliga for the under-20s, she made her Bundesliga debut against TSG Hoffenheim. In the summer of 2023, she signed her first professional deal.
