Denis Huseinbasic extends
1. FC Köln have extended Denis Huseinbasic’s contract. The 22-year-old has decided to remain in Köln on a long-term contract.
“I made my first steps in professional football at FC and became a Bundesliga player. The trust that I received then is something that I want to give back now and give everything in the new season,” said Denis Huseinbasic.
With his move from Kickers Offenbach to FC, Huseinbasic made the leap from the Regionalliga Südwest to the Bundesliga. In his first season at FC, he made 24 league appearances (four goals, one assist) and featured five times in the UEFA Europa Conference League (one goal, one assist). Through his strong performances at FC, he earned a place in Germany’s under-21s and was part of the team at the under-21 European Championship last year.
In the past season, he played in 26 Bundesliga games (three assists). After the season came to a close, Huseinbasic made his international debut for Bosnia and Herzegovina. He came on late in the game against England and featured against Italy a few days later.
FC Managing Director, Christian Keller said: “Deni has developed brilliantly here. Despite his huge step from the fourth division to the Bundesliga and as a full international, his progress hasn’t come to an end. Deni’s potential still hasn’t been reached. His desire and will to win will push him on to keep working on himself in the future. We are convinced that we’ll enjoy what is to come at FC with Deni and are very pleased to have signed him to a long-term deal.”
Huseinbasic spoke of his admiration for FC, the city and the fans: “The people in Köln make the club very special. Everyone in this city lives for FC, almost every car has a sticker with Hennes on it. How the fans push us on, when we’re behind… those are the moments that you never forget. Therefore, I’ll do everything to make sure we’re back in the Bundesliga as soon as possible. That’s what our fans deserve.”
