Friendly win against Bochum
1. FC Köln secured a friendly victory in the international break thanks to a 3:2 victory against VfL Bochum. After Sargis Adamyan opened the scoring, Moritz Kwarteng and Moritz Broschinski turned the game around. Luca Waldschmidt levelled in the 54th minute, with Neo Telle winning the match with the final action of the game.
Level at the break
FC started the game well and went ahead with the first meaningful opportunity. Luca Waldschmidt pushed the ball behind the Bochum defence and Sargis Adamyan managed to poke home ahead of the onrushing Patrick Drewes in the sixth minute.
Adamyan almost returned the favour for Waldschmidt moments later, only for Christian Gamboa to clear. Bochum slowly came into the game and went close through Koji Miyoshi’s half-volley from 16 yards.
The visitors did get level in the 19th minute after Moritz Kwarteng managed to force a way through and finish past Marvin Schwäbe from 10 yards. The FC stopper did, however, brilliantly keep out Philipp Hofmann and Moritz Broschinski in quick succession.
Telle takes it at the death
The second-half began with Timo Horn heading between the Bochum sticks on his return to Geißbockheim. He watched on as Broschinski gave Peter Zeidler’s side the lead, beating Neo Telle to the ball before poking past Schwäbe.
However, just four minutes later, FC were level. Marvin Obuz was afforded time and space on the right, and he used that to pick out the run of Luca Waldschmidt. He made no mistake in firing past Timo Horn from close range.
Things continued to go back and forth as Horn denied Steffen Tigges a winner, whilst no Bochum player was able to get on the end of Mats Pannewig’s dangerous cross.
A winner came with the last kick of the game. After Timo Horn had tipped over Elias Bakatukanda’s header, the resulting corner wasn’t dealt with and Neo Telle fired home from close range as the final whistled sounded moments later.
