Joël Schmied joins FC
1. FC Köln have signed Joël Schmied. The centre-back has joined FC from Swiss Super League side FC Sion. On Sunday evening, the 26-year-old signed a deal until 2029.
“Joël and his athletic, tactical and technical skills fit really well to the profile we were looking for. At FC Sion, he has been a very good communicator on and off the pitch as captain. We are happy that Joël will be able to bring this into training and matches straight away. He will bring the competition for places at his position to a new level,” said FC Managing Director, Christian Keller.
“The move to FC is a real motivation for me. I am very pleased that after my successful time at FC Sion, that I can now take the next step in my career at a huge, traditional club in Köln. Those responsible at FC have given me a really good feeling from the start and fought for my transfer. I thought that was great and now I will do everything on the pitch that I can to pay back that trust in my sporting qualities. I am looking forward to my first session with the team and can hardly wait to play in the FC strip for the first time,” said Joël Schmied.
