1. FC Köln and FC Bayern München have come to an agreement over the transfer of Jonas Urbig. The Germany under-21 international has joined the current Bundesliga table-toppers.
“Jonas is one of Germany’s biggest goalkeeping talents. It played out, that he now has the chance to join Germany’s most successful club and take the next steps in his career there. We wanted to make this step possible but, on the one hand, are also sad to be losing a player who came through our academy. On the other, we are very proud that a young lad from Köln is making the step from our academy to FC Bayern. We wish Jonas all the best for the future,” said FC Managing Director, Christian Keller.
“FC is my hometown club. I grew up at Geißbockheim and, therefore, it isn’t easy to say goodbye. On the other hand, for myself, the situation wasn’t satisfactory of late. The fact that this chance has now popped up is a huge opportunity to develop at the highest level.
“I am incredibly thankful for the letting me have the chance but all for years in which I have enjoyed an incredible amount of support from the club. My wish is that FC and the lads return to the Bundesliga at the end of the season. I am crossing my fingers for everyone at FC and the fans as well,” said Jonas Urbig.
Jonas Urbig joined FC at the age of 8 and made his way through the FC academy. On the way up the ranks, he won the under-17 German Championship and was also a regular feature in the Germany youth sides. The 21-year-old is currently first-choice goalkeeper for the under-21s and secured a place at the 2025 European Championship in Slovakia. In the past two seasons, he was on loan to SSV Jahn Regensburg (17 games) and SpVgg Greuther Fürth (34 games). In summer 2024, he returned to FC and made 11 appearances at the start of the season.
