Jusuf Gazibegovic joins FC
FC’s first new signing since the removal of the transfer ban from FIFA has been confirmed. Jusuf Gazibegovic will play for 1. FC Köln from 1st January 2025. The wing-back, who can play on the left and the right, arrives from Sturm Graz.
On Saturday past, the Bosnian international featured for Graz for the final time in the Austrian Bundesliga. Last night, the 24-year-old missed the UEFA Champions League tie against due to suspension. Gazibegovic made 22 appearances for Graz, 14 games in the league (one goal, one assist) as well as five Champions League matches and three ÖFB-Cup ties.
“Jusuf joins us through the season where he was a key player in Graz as a wing-back. We are very pleased that we were able to bring him to FC. Despite his age, Jusuf has a lot of experience at both national and international level. Alongside his footballing capabilities, he is very strong mentally. He is a player that never gives up and has the ambition to help FC to return to the Bundesliga as soon as possible,” said FC Managing Director, Christian Keller.
Jusuf Gazibegovic said: “I signed here because it is a really big club in Germany – with a lot of tradition. I like that. A lot of factors played a role in my decision. The city, that lives for the club. The coach, that knows me very well and coached me as a small kid. And the challenge: I want to get promoted to the Bundesliga with FC. I can hardly wait to get going.”
Jusuf Gazibegovic was born in Salzburg to Bosnian parents on 11th March 2000. In his home town, he started his path to professional football. He took his first footballing steps at SV Austria Salzburg and later in the Red Bull Salzburg academy. He gave his debut at Salzburg’s farm team, FC Liefering, in March 2018 in the second division against SV Ried. In 2020, he joined Sturm Graz. Since then, he made 177 appearances, winning the Austrian Cup twice and, last season, the league. He has been part of the Bosnia and Herzegovina setup since the under-16s and has earned 21 caps for the senior squad.
