Martel “can’t believe it”
“I can’t quite believe it,” is how Eric Martel summed up his feelings after the 2:1 defeat to 1. FC Magdeburg on Saturday evening. Over 30 shots, an expected goals value of 4.6 and still beaten. “We had it in our hands and had enough chances. But if you don’t score goals, then you concede them.”
Martel was self-critical: “We have to look at ourselves. We didn’t take our chances and, at the end, didn’t defend well enough.” Especially after the equaliser, Magdeburg “came into the game more”, while didn’t get a grip as they had done before.
“We have shown often enough this season, that we can score goals. Today, it didn’t work out and that’s extremely frustrating as we wanted to win. Today, we lost the game ourselves,” explained Martel. “We are a young team and everything doesn’t work at once. We have to keep going.”
