Eric Martel, Dejan Ljubicic and goalscorer, Linton Maina had their say after the 2:1 defeat to Hamburger SV on Friday evening.
Eric Martel: “HSV had a lot of counter-attacks that we didn’t defend well. That’s how we conceded the two goals. Nevertheless, we made the game in the first and especially the second-half, had a lot of possession and chances. However, we didn’t make them count.”
Dejan Ljubicic: “In the first-half, it was too little. We didn’t really get stuck into the challenges. The gegenpressing, which we did so well in the final few games of pre-season, wasn’t as present as before. The second-half was a better but HSV defended well and made it more and more difficult for us.”
Linton Maina: “HSV scored twice, we scored once. Otherwise, I think that we were the better team and played well. We can’t let our head drop and need to keep going. The opponent were drilled into how we would played and we were somewhat surprised that they didn’t press as high as we are used to and played on the counter. We managed to get forward but failed to find another goal.”
