Struber: “More than deserved”
1. FC Köln progressed to the second round of the DFB-Pokal after a 3:2 extra-time win against SV Sandhausen.
After the game, FC head coach, Gerhard Struber spoke about…
…the game: “We knew that it would be a difficult task. How we played in the first-half was more than fitting, we deservedly went ahead, could have been further ahead and didn’t give up many chances. We came out of the half-time break and were in control. At the same time, we didn’t use a few moments to the best of our ability. The opposition tried to turn the game around by investing a lot.”
…positives to take from the game: “We take belief from the win. After the setback of conceding in the last minute, we never gave up. I have a lot of respect how much the lads invested until the very end. Our progression is more than deserved, the game went in a clear direction. We knew that we would have to invest a lot to make that happen and we made that happen together.”
…the reasons behind losing the lead: “That has a lot to do with stability. We have a lot of players on the pitch who were in the academy or under-21s a while ago and are now starters for us. There are moments in which you can go through with more calmness when you’re more experienced. These are experiences we still have to experience these moments and don’t have that yet. Games like today help a lot. We are in a phase of development. We have patience but also know how things can turn out. It’s about learning and developing quickly.”
