Struber: “We have to work for it”
1. FC Köln drew 2:2 with SV Elversberg in the first away game of the 2024-25 season. FC head coach, Gerhard Struber had this to say after the match:
“Our aim was clear: we wanted to take the three points back to Köln. In the first-half especially, we did a lot right, we were dominant and create a lot of chances that should have led to more goals. We also conceded little in the way of opportunities. The goal straight after the break disrupted our rhythm, we lost the momentum and Elversberg pushed on. As a team, we didn’t lose the belief and managed to get the momentum back on our side towards the end with a lot of fight and energy. It was a deserved equaliser, because we did a lot in the game and invested a lot as well. We are in a phase where the lads have to invest a lot to create chances. We’ll come into a flow when the players start scoring goals. There are phases, in which you have to work hard for things. The good thing is that we are creating a lot of opportunities. I can live with the performances in the first two games. At the same time, as FC, we have the goal of being elsewhere in terms of points. We’re going to work on that and turn the performances in a direction where more points are the consequence of that.”
