Timo Hübers set to stay
1. FC Köln are able to plan with another important player for the upcoming 2. Bundesliga campaign. Timo Hübers will stay with the club despite relegation and take on an important role on and off the pitch next season. The 27-year-old is the third player to commit to the club after Jan Thielmann and Eric Martel.
Timo Hübers said: “In the past three years, the club, the city and the people here have found a place in my heart, especially the loyal FC fans and their emotional nature. With the power and presence that the club has behind us, I want to lead from the front next season as one of the experienced players. I want to bring the club back to where it belongs.”
FC Managing Director, Christian Keller said: “With his quality and experienced, Timo is an important pillar in our team. Timo has the desire to take on more responsibility in the future and to be more of a leader. His commitment to FC is therefore not only another very strong signal, but also something close to his heart. I am very happy about that.”
Timo Hübers was born in Hildesheim on 20th July 1996. He went through the academy at Hannover 96, with the exception of one season at FC in the under-21s. In the 2016-17 season, he made 21 appearances in the Regionalliga West, scoring once. Since his return to Köln in summer 2021, he has featured in 80 Bundesliga games, finding the back of the net four times and assisting a further goal.
