Maxi Schmid moved from FSV Mainz 05 to the FC youth team in 2018. The Hanau-born striker played a total of 81 games for FC's youth teams, scored 33 goals and won the German championship with the U17s. He also played one international match for the German U15 national team, scoring one goal, and two for the DFB U16s.
Schmid made his professional FC debut as a substitute in the Europa Conference League match in the 2022/23 season. In the 2023/24 season, the 184cm centre-forward was loaned out to Dutch second division club Roda JC Kerkrade in order to get more playing time. He scored six goals and set up three in 33 games.
